Cuz #itsmybirthday

Did I mention I'm now addicted to twitter? Such a great way to chat up other foodies and wineaux. (Or virtually follow storm chasers running after tornadoes in central Canada ... hey, my life isn't ALL about wine.)

This past Friday was my birthday, and oh my, I celebrated in grand style. A morning spent admiring Caravaggio at the National Art Gallery, sushi lunch at Wasabi, a stop for cappuccino in the market, and then time for a massage. AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH. I kept the Twitterverse up-to-date with the hash tag #itsmybirthday, hoping readers would find the humour in that and not think I was being rub-it-in-your-face obnoxious.

One day became three as I headed to the homestead to be right spoiled by Mum and Da. I didn't come empty handed though: from Saturday's Vintages release, I picked up a Benjamin Bridge 2010 Nova 7 (Nova Scotia). It's rare to see anything from that area on the LCBO shelves, so I was eager to give it a try. Well worth the price ($25), it's muscat-based and only lightly fizzy, but bursting with stone-fruit flavours that just keep dancing across the palate: nectarines, peaches, apricots. Firm acidity right through to the finish, crisp, not too sweet. Believe it or not, it was fantastic with birthday cake, although I'm sure there are much better pairings for it than buttercream icing.

But hey, #itsmybirthday. I'm entitled to get a little crazy once in a while.
