I've got a bit of summer reading to get to, as you can see. (The latest issue of Wine Access is upstairs on my bedside table, well-thumbed already.) Online reading may be the way we're going as a society, but there's something satisfying that comes from flipping through the glossy pages of a magazine, delivered right to your mailbox.
I'm also slowly making my way through The Order of Good Cheer, by Canadian author Bill Gaston. (And by 'slowly", I'm talkin' a page a day, if I'm lucky.) A historical fiction about the parallel lives of explorer Samuel de Champlain and modern-day guy Andy Winslow. They're both in remote, isolated places, they're both bored to tears, and they both turn to their inner foodies for release. My kind of book.
I've even got some wine to go with it: Varanda do Conde 2009 Alvarinho / Trajadura Vinho Verde. Vinho verde is my friend Michelle's go-to house wine during the summer, and no wonder. Fresh, zippy, full of bright citrus flavours and a clean finish, it's awesome with anything (we had this one tonight with cajun chicken pasta, and I finished off the last glass while reading through the bajillion emails from my Google alerts.)
11 pm already? Oh well, save the mags for another evening, I guess. I'll get to them eventually.
