- Shawshank Redemption
Today, I bought new art supplies, worked on a blog post, did some 60-second writing exercises, caught up on reading other blogs, reviewed a wine and hired a personal trainer. Gettin' busy livin'.
I've been in a rut as of late, lamenting the loss of creativity in my life and blaming it on lack of time, stress from work, stuff to do around the house, etc etc. All pretty lame, and all just a convenient gloss-over that keeps me from looking at where the problem really lies: within.
So I went out and searched for inspiration. I signed up for writing prompts at OneWord and One Minute Writer, and have been doing my best to carve out some time each day to put pen to paper and let the words flow freely. It's been an eye-opener.
I also went out to my favourite art supply store and bought a bunch of shiny pretty things so that I could finish this off (year and a half in the making) and start work on something new.

Now that I've crawled out of the doldrums, I must give some great peeps a shout-out for being such creative, passionate, and simply marvelous human beings: geek grrrl Jordan Danger, of Girl, Crafted; Mike Caesar, a talented Ottawa-based poet; fitness guru Jules Hilliker, who has promised to come kick my ass for me; super-awesome artist duo Alison Fowler (of Ali Cat Art) and Andrew King; John Squair, winemaker at Three Dog Wine; James Howden, brilliant ex-pat writer sending notes from Dalian, China; and Erynn Doherty, of Beyond Clarity Photography and Whispering Woods (who has FOUR kids, a teaching job, and still manages to find time to create! You GO girl!)
Gonna go paint some more now.
That's a damn fine painting Bethany! You should try NaNoWriMo this year. It's not till November, so you have lots of time to think about it.
