So begins the next year

New Year's Eve was a resounding success ... well, except for the 1 am wake-up call from the Doodle, who decided she was being left out and proceeded to keep the party going until four in the morning. It's no wonder I'm still recovering several days later. Still, the gourmet take-out was good, the Cuvee was even better, and the fact that we didn't have to call for a cab at the end of the night was the best. Too bad morning came far too early ... ugh.

I've never been a big believer in new year's resolutions. I like the concept of having an idea of what I'd like to do in the coming year, but I've dispensed with setting anything in stone. Cuz let's face it, you can never know what life's going to throw at you.

But if I had to make any sort of resolution, it would be this: try more new wines. I'm developing what I believe is called "vineyard mouth", when you've been drinking so much of a specific style from one particular region, that the exact same wine from another region tastes like there's something wrong with it. There usually isn't - it's just different.

So, to avoid the terrible peril of being boring, I'm heading back to the classroom as of next Monday, to partake in the next phase of the sommelier program, with the goal of expanding my knowledge of the wonderful world of wine ... and to drink some really good stuff. Keep you posted on what adventures may come.
