Yup, there it was, a nifty little pop-up wine bar on wheels, parked right on Sparks Street.
Wine County Ontario's Dare to Compare tasting truck has been on the road since early June, stopping at special events and festivals on weekends and popping up unexpectedly in between. Their Ottawa appearance drew quite a crowd of folks who were ready to start the weekend off with a few free samples of grown-up grape juice.
I preferred the whites, myself. Rosewood Estates 2013 Sussreserve Riesling, with an off-dry palate, lemony nose and distinct minerality stretched out over a long, tropical fruit finish. The Konzelmann 2013 Unoaked Chardonnay featured light, flinty aromas, citrus and pear, and brisk acidity with staying power.
Since I had already tried some wine from a truck, I figured it would only be fitting to get lunch from one, too. Luckily, Green Papaya's mobile unit was conveniently set up across the street in Confederation Park. Their Pad Thai poutine is truly a thing of beauty.
