Quaff this: Pillitteri 2004 Merlot (Niagara, Ontario)

I went to class, I drank, and this is what I said about it:
Deep garnet colour, tight rim, polished. Both the nose and the palate are intensely complex (and I really mean complex this time - every time I took a sniff and a sip, it was different. Sign of a well-crafted wine.) Aromas of mint, Grand Marnier, nutmeg, violet, chocolate. Spice and ripe red berry, with a high-acid, medium-bodied mouthfeel. Long, well-balanced finish. As my instructor, Denise Dompierre, said, this is a good wine to taste. This is a wine that will stand very well on its own, as well as with food.
