Quaff this: Campo Al Sorbo 1997 Chianti Rufina Riserva
Another purchase from my first Vintages release experience. The nose when it was first opened was lush with ripe fruit and leather. Medium bodied, fairly light tannins and more delicious flavours of cherry, plums and raisins. Long finish. Sadly, the big fruitiness didn't last, but the rest of the structure stayed pretty consistent. We had it with Hubby's lasagna, a cold-weather staple oozing with gobs of cheese and swamped by torrents of tomato sauce. The sauce is from his mother's recipe, and takes hours of simmering before it reaches its peak. Not that I mind - nothing beats walking into the house to that glorious smell. Unless, of course, there's a good glass of Chianti waiting to go with it.
